Single parent's challenges are multiplied, so coping with child-rearing can become an overload of responsibility.  Having to make all the decisions, provide all of the necessities, demands of work, housework, meeting their own and children's emotional needs can lead to loneliness, anxiety, and depression.  It is important to have a circle of family and friends who can offset the effects of overload.  On the other hand, inspite of these barriers; many single parents can be successful in raising their children as long as they keep the Lord as the center of their lives.

Scriptures tend to praise singles. One way the Bible uplifts singlehood for God's people is the sheer inclusion of so many prominent Bible characters who were single for life or widowed without remarriage. Among these godly singles are Elijah, Daniel, Jeremiah, John the Baptist, Jesus, Paul and Barnabas, as well as widows like Naomi in the Book of Ruth, and Anna, the saintly woman who was 84 years of age when the Baby Jesus was dedicated in the Temple (Luke 2:36-38).

Whether you are single by choice or not, being single does not make you any less valuable to God or as a parent to your child.  The best way to be the most loving and effective parent is to NOT focus on what you don't have or who you are NOT with, but focus on the Lord.  He will give you the answers to all of your problems.

There are resources available for many of the issues you may be facing.  If you're willing to do the research, then you will find; you are not alone.

First Lady Khandice Lawrence and her three siblings were raised by a single mother (Melody Love).  As a European woman raising mulatto children, not only did Melody face the typical economic and social hardships related to singlehood, but she had to deal with the prejudices and biases of both white and black communities.  Today, three of her children have earned Masters Degrees and one is in college pursuing a Bachelors of Arts. If you were to ask her how she did it; the answer would simply be, "Jesus."  We want single parents to know that we love and support you.  Our goal is to assist you in finding information and resources that will meet your needs.
